Americans make up 5% of the world's population, yet consume 26% of the world's energy. The U.S. uses approximately 15 times more energy per person than the typical developing country. The United States spends about $440 billion annually for energy. Energy costs U.S. consumers $200 billion and U.S. manufacturers $100 billion annually.	Through the H1-B Grant Initiative, the TRDA provides up to 50 percent of the funding necessary to train American workers who are manufacturing innovations or who are employed by advanced manufacturing technology companies. This interactive training – which includes everything from technology transfer and commercialization to mentoring and research – helps ensure these workers have the most current and cutting-edge skills needed to compete in the world marketplace. Training is offered solely for workers in a variety of engineering specialties, as well as chemists, physicists, mathematicians, life sciences researchers, systems analysts, programmers and Web masters. Training Process: Companies identify the area where they need technical mentoring. Companies are partnered with subject matter experts who provide the desired training that is targeted to the firms’ specific needs. Following the training session, an evaluation is performed to study the impact of the training on the company’s productivity and competitiveness in the marketplace.
